2023-24 Concert Season

Sunday September 10th 2023, 11am-4 pm, Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catherine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147: The Island Country / Philadelphia Indonesian Festival with Modero Dance and Gapura Philadelphia. The festival includes a parade, music, food, dance, folk games, batik design, and other activities. Gamelan Gita Santi, directed by Whitman, will perform at about 12:30. Thursday October 12th 2023 and Sunday October 15th 2023: World premiere performances of Whitman’s Wings of Icarus for Trumpet and Organ as part of a North American tour by Italian musicians Ivano Ascari and Leonardo Carrieri. The 10/12 performance will take place at the Presbyterian Church in Laurinberg, NC; the 10/15 performance, 3 PM at First Baptist Church, Greenville SC.
Sunday October 15th 2023, 3 PM: Trinity Center for Urban Life 22nd and Spruce Streets, Philadelphia. Dolce Suono Ensemble, with Mimi Stillman, flute and artistic director. Program includes Jeremy Gill, David Serkin Ludwig, Jennifer Higdon, Steven Mackey, Steven Stucky, and Thomas Whitman’s Soekia’s Dance in a new version for flute, cello, and piano performed by Tickets: $10-$30.
Saturday November 18th 2023, 5:30 PM: Fleisher Art Memorial, 719 Catherine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147. Winter concert of Gamelan Gita Santi of South Philadelphia, in collaboration with Modero Dance and Gapura Philadelphia. —- Sunday November 19th 2023, 3 PM: Lang Concert Hall,  Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA 19081. Fall Concert by Gamelan Semara Santi of Swarthmore College, in collaboration with the Indonesian Cultural Club of Delaware. Featured Guest Artists: musician/composer Putu Hironmeyena and dancer Dewa Ayu Eka Putri. Traditional music and dance from Bali, Indonesia. Co-directed by Ni Luh Kadek Kusuma Dewi, Lidya Darmawan, I Nyoman Suadin, and Thomas Whitman. This concert will be live-streamed through this link. Admission: free.
Friday, December 8th, 7:00 pm in the Music Room of Goodhart Hall at Bryn Mawr College: Fall Concert by the Bi-Co Flute Choir. Program includes the world premiere of Whitman’s Queen, Descend! for Flute Choir. Admission: free.
Sunday, March 3, 2024, 2 PM: Stockton University Campus Center Theatre (CCT), 101 Vera King Farris Drive, Galloway, NJ 08205. Concert by the Stockton Chamber Players directed by Christopher Di Santo, who is also the clarinet soloist. Program will include Whitman’s Sonata for Clarinet and Piano. Click this link for tickets.
Sunday April 7th 2024, 3 PM: Lang Concert Hall, Swarthmore College, Swarthmore, PA 19081.
